Tata motors led the growth charge in February 2018 by seeing a 45 percent increase in sales volume. Most of the indigenous automakers in the country registered positive growth in the month of February, especially in the segment of passenger vehicle sales. The positive trend indicates that fiscal year April 2017 to March 2018 will have a record finish. The volumes have been led by Maruti Suzuki as well whose growth in sales was also in double digit figures.
Maruti Suzuki remained the leader in the car segment as the volume of sales of this company has risen 13.3 percent as per year on year figures. The growth has been primarily driven by small cars such as Baleno and Dzire which also included a strong demand for the third gen Swift that was launched the same month. The sales momentum was also kept up by Vitara Brezza in the UV segment. The upswing has been around 13.8 percent. However, sales of Ciaz have declined by about 16.8 percent this month. In general the company set a sales record as per the FY 2017 against which the 1.5 mn mark is easy to be crossed this year.
Tata Motors have upped the game in the passenger vehicle segment as well. Its efforts have come through in robust sales that the company has posted this month which was 45 percent. The total units sold have been about 17,771 units. The growth has come by mainly because of the Nexon’s sales going up. The Ranjangaon facility of the company in Pune has been buzzing with 25,000 units of Nexon produced within five months of its launch in September 2017. Tata Motors have definitely upped the quotient in the PV segment as they also launched the EVs of Tiago and Tigor which are path breakers in the movement of the country moving towards electric mobility.
Mahindra & Mahindra as the UV major in the country has registered a growth of about 8 percent as against February 2017. The sale of UVs of the company includes models like XUV500, Scorpio, Bolero and others. The total number of passenger vehicles that the company sold has been 22,389 as against 20,717 units that were sold in February 2017.
